19.00-19.30: Speaking Practice (Employment Law)

Lindsey Griffith, J.D.

  • Advances in automation allow some companies to open for business without the need for human staff to be on duty. This has potential impact on the common "ban on working on Sundays" in Germany and is fertile ground for legal battles between companies seeking to have their doors open on Sundays, and workers' unions wanting to keep the floodgates closed to potentially lifting Sunday working bans.
  • Join Lindsey and take your chance to discuss this topic in a relaxed environment and gain expert feedback on your speaking.

19.30-20.00: Relatives Clauses in Legal English Drafting

Kirk Beahm

  • Join Kirk and develop a fuller, more nuanced understanding of how relative clauses work in legal drafting in English
  • Our experience working with law firms and lawyers in Germany shows that English relative clauses are the source of significant problems in legal drafting, forcing the reader to work hard to understand what is written, and the drafter/firm to come across as lacking in professionalism. The same issues appear in writing produced for university studies in English.
